What is airdrop & how do I use it?

Initially available with OS X Lion (10.7) for Mac to Mac transfers, AirDrop was later made available for mobile devices starting on iOS 7. AirDrop is, perhaps, one of the most underused features in the Apple ecosystem, but it is a great resource for Apple users. Let’s take a look at how to use it.

What happens if I Turn Off airdrop?

Receiving Off: You won't receive AirDrop requests. Contacts Only: Only your contacts can see your device. Everyone: All nearby Apple devices using AirDrop can see your device. When you set your AirDrop option to Everyone in iOS 16.2 or later, your option reverts to Contacts Only after 10 minutes.

What does everyone mean on Apple airdrop?

“Everyone” means that any person with an Apple device in range can see your device. Apple lists the range of AirDrop as roughly 30 feet. To make a drop, first select the content you want to share and tap the share button, which looks like a box with an arrow coming out of it.

How do I set up airdrop on my iPad?

To choose who can see your device and send you content in AirDrop: Go to Settings, then tap General. Tap AirDrop, then choose an option. On iPhone X or later, swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen to open Control Center. Or follow the same motion to open Control Center on your iPad with iOS 12 or later or iPadOS.
